2025 guard Simon Walker is trending as the high school season rolls

We’re nearly a month into the high school basketball season and we’ve had some early opportunities to see various teams thus far. The Thanksgiving holiday tournaments gave us plenty of action to dive deeper into, too.

Huntsville (AL) High School had an impressive win over Tupelo (MS) during the Lighthouse Classic and a lot of that win came behind a strong performance from 2025 guard Simon Walker.

Walker, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, set the tone for the Panthers in the first quarter against Tupelo as he scored 13 quick points. The skilled guard mixed things up with a couple of three-pointers and some savvy back cuts that led to easy layups. He ultimately finished the game with 26 points on 9 of 17 shooting from the floor.

“The high school season is going pretty well for us,” Walker told HoopSeen.com. “We hit a rough patch at the Mountain Brook tournament before Thanksgiving against some pretty good competition, but it will only make us better when February comes around. It was good to see us come back and have a complete game on Saturday at the Lighthouse Classic.”

Walker has been consistently good for Huntsville, who has staked an early claim as one of the top teams in Alabama’s 7A classification. He’s trending upward as a prospect and college programs have already taken notice.

“I have offers from Samford, Alabama A&M, Jacksonville State, Tennessee Tech, and Lipscomb,” he explained.

High-major programs are starting to ramp up their interest, too. It’s been warranted, as the sophomore is trending as a viable option for Power 5 schools. SEC schools such as Auburn, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt have reached out, while schools like Belmont, Liberty, and UT-Chattanooga are also tracking him closely.

Walker’s rise is no surprise to those that have watched him play within the last calendar year. He had a phenomenal showing in last year’s 7A state championship game for James Clemens and followed it up with a quality travel season for Pro One.

With a talented team and Walker continuing to trend upward, keep an eye on Huntsville in 7A this season.
