The Warm Up With @DCREALSPILL

In this week’s edition of the Warm-Up, two highly ranked teams matched up in a 7A rivalry. And one of Alabama’s top players in the state fully commits.

#3 Vestavia Hills vs. #4 Hoover

Senior Christian Bryant kicked the game off with a scorching shot from beyond the arch for Hoover, followed by an aggressive attack to the basket from Vestavia Hills Reese Gurner.

Things were definitely heated between the two teams as they both came out with a lot of intensity in this 7A rivalry game.

After being down only by one heading into halftime, Vestavia exploded with some great shooting from Junior Win Miller and some big plays from Nate Harris.

Hoover’s excellent play kept that lead short despite the big run, and the game would stay neck and neck majorly of the 3rd Q.

Gurner, who’s been averaging almost 20 points a game, was the main guy that provided a basket when needed. He is tough and will give 1000 percent to the very end.

This game came down to the wire and the last minute was very crucial. It would come down to who had the ball at the very end.

Following missed free throws from Hoover, Clayton Marek would make a drop-off pass to Cole Turner for the game-winning layup, winning 59-58.

Gurner has been on a tear this season, and he once again led the way with 22 pts. Win Miller added 15 points, dished out six assists, and grabbed six rebounds, putting on another solid performance.

Cole Turner chipped in with 12 points and eight rebounds, knocking down the winning basket.

TQ Richardson was an unstoppable force and led the way for Hoover with 19pts and four rebounds.

Vestavia Hills improves to 8-0 and will play Oak Mountain tonight.

Martavious Russell is heading to Starkville.

MJ Russell is the next player to come off the board in Alabama.

After an incredible start to his senior season, Russell pulled in an offer from Mississippi State, and earlier this week, he decided to fully commit to Hail State.

Russell told 247Sports that he just felt comfortable there.

"I've been to a majority of places, and I've been traveling around the country for basketball. But no place felt like Mississippi State. I felt so welcomed there. Plus, I know I will get better there instead of going somewhere else and wasting my time," he said.

Russell is truly a gifted guard that can score and will surely be a nice pickup for MSU.
