DC's Quick-Takes: University of Alabama-Huntsville Elite Camp

Huntsville, Alabama

My time at the University of Alabama-Huntsville basketball camp was simply amazing. Coach Shulman and his entire staff put together an excellent camp and provided a stage for athletes to be seen.

Some of the best elite players from Tennessee, Georgia, and of course, Alabama came to showcase their skills in just a few short weeks after the travel season.

The energy inside this gym was unmatched, and every player showed up ready to go. Coach Shulman put these guys to work from start to finish, and these guys were up for the challenge. The UAH staff provided top-notch circuits to put those skills to the test, shooting drills, dribbling, and my favorite with the one-on-one training.

Key Standouts

Reese Gurner was one of the players that stood out right from the jump. He’s a 6-foot-1 from Vestavia Hill, AL, and this guy started with great energy and carried that over to the end. Gurner has an aggressive game; his high motor always allows him to play big on both ends of the floor. He’s a player who can slash the lane for a quick bucket, turn around, and give that same intensity on defense. Another key skill Gurner showed was his elite scoring with the mid-range shot; his ability to drive and pull-up makes him much more versatile than a catch and shoot player.

Teagan Moore is a 6-foot-5 forward from Dry Ridge, KY, and he was by far the most impressive player at the camp. Moore did a fantastic job portraying his skills, showing everyone that he could be a threat from all five positions if needed. He can push the ball on the break with his solid handles, making the intelligent decision to facilitate or score. Moore has a nice shot from any spot on the floor and is aggressive finishing at the rim. After showcasing his skills from the wing, Moore raised his stock even more with his gameplay under the basket. He’s an excellent rebounder on both ends and fights to get second shots, making him quite difficult to guard at any position.
