JY's Meat & Three: Key 2020 commits coming this week, @SUVtv game to watch, @TyPhotog pic of the day

It is lunchtime somewhere. So, welcome back to the lunch hour read of the Meat & Three. Every weekday I dive into a big picture topic and three things to get you through a quarantine spring. We’ll take a look at some important commitments on the horizon, some key decisions in the South, a great SUVtv game for the Stream of the Day and, of course, the Ty Freeman photo of the day.

THE MEAT: TWO BIG DECISIONS ON THE HORIZON

Two of the best available players in the class of 2020 will be making their college commitments this week, shrinking the list of top-end high school available talent.

Texas big man Greg Brown - a top 10 national prospect - will decide on Friday, April 24. He’s one of the most explosive players we’ve seen from the high school ranks in a long while. Think Aaron Gordon level bounce. I’ve long believed Texas would be the winner for his pledge.

Devin Carter will make his college decision this Friday. He’s also likely taken a postgrad year and then join the high-major school he will commit to this week. Carter is and has been, one of the top scorers I’ve seen in the 2020 class. He will be a top 100 national prospect, perhaps justifiably higher than that in 2021. I’ve always been surprised by how undervalued he’s been throughout his high school career.

THE NOTE

The new Georgia Southern staff has been busy since taken over the Statesboro program. Cam Bryant, a state champion at Dutchtown, ended his recruitment by staying home and picking the Eagles.

Alabama A&M has had a great week on the recruiting front, securing the backcourt of the future for the SWAC program. Discovery (GA) guard London Riley is headed to the program. He joins Florida guard Eric Lee, who also committed to the Bulldogs. A great shooter paired with a great rim driver, that’s what A&M is getting in this backcourt.

With Bryant and Riley off the board, that takes two more of our ranked players in Georgia’s 2020 class off the board and the college-bound list is approaching 120 players from the Peach State’s senior class.

THE STREAM

Today we go back to the SUVtv vault. McEachern’s Sharife Cooper scored 52 points while Savannah 2022 forward De’Ante Bass introduced himself to the Peach State hoops community. This was a high-scoring affair and fun to watch.

THE TY FREEMAN PHOTO OF THE DAY

The lens of Ty Freeman catches it all. This week we look take a look at the perspective that Ty brought from the 2019 Best of the South at the Georgia World Congress Center.
