Carolina Preview camp: Team 2 Evals

Our first Carolina Preview camp had a ton of the states top players under one roof. After reviewing our notes, here's a breakdown of everyone on Team 2

Related: Top Performers | Team 1

Rodney Howard, 2019 F, Legacy-Atlanta Celtics

Our camp director Darryl LaBarrie not only named Ole Miss commit Rodney Howard a top performer but he called him the best player in camp. Read more about what our staff had to say about him here

Kolbe Ashe, 2022 G, Hayesville-Warriors Elite

When Ashes' first shot dropped their was a true feel of excitement to radiated from his teammates, his coach and even myself. Despite taking all of the right shots he couldnt get it to click early, but without changing his approach he eventually nailed shots for his team. Often times younger players get discouraged if the first few dont drop but this wasn't the case with Kolbe Ashe. Once his offensive game picked up there was a noticeable improvement on offense as well.

Truman Claytor, 2022 G, Overhills-Team Wall

Two things that will always stand out at a camp or high energy, defensive minded players. Truman Claytor embodies that type of prospect as his defensive intangibles would earn him minutes on the vast majority of teams around. There was a possession where Claytor hedged out on a ball screen for a clean steal that lead to a easy layup in transition. His IQ for the game appeared to be beyond that of a player thats just walking into high school. Even if there are some things to tighten up going forward, this Team Wall guard should make some noise from his energy and effort.

KJ Richardson, 2020 G, Westwood-3 Ball Elite

KJ Richardson is another one who's game you just remember a long time after leaving the gym. He's a floor general. An active one at that. A guard that didnt mind to steer the team how he saw fit. It lead to a lot of good plays, mainly in ball screens where he could use his solid one or two dribble pull-ups. Despite being only 5'10, Richardson did what a smaller guard is supposed to do and thats harass ball handlers that weren't capable of handling his pressure. Richardson played like the straw that stirs the drink.

CJ Washington, 2020 F, IRMO-Playground Elite

From the start of drills, Playground Elite forward CJ Washington was poised to have a great day. This assumption held up as he was later named one of our camps top performers. Read more about what our staff had to say about him here.

Lucas Jenkins, 2020 G, Mountain Heritage- PSB Elite

Some physical play around the rim from PSB Elite guard Lucas Jenkins put him on my watch list early on. Whether it was with the ball in his hands or offensive rebounding, Jenkins made it a point to clear out his own space inside of the paint. When he wasn't in the paint using his 6'5 frame he was behind the line knocking in some corner threes. A player at his size with inside-out capabilities should be able to help his team well going forward.

Frenchie Simpson, 2019 G, Westwood-Team Wall

A quick release and a good feel for when the ball was coming lead to some easy attempts for Team Wall guard Frenchie Simpson. His shot making bodes well for him going forward as he doesnt have to constantly have the ball in his hands. Simpson made steady decisions with the ball as he didnt make any head scratching plays.
