Troy lands in-state pledge from 2019 guard Desmond Williams

With the July evaluation periods concluding on Sunday afternoon, 2019 Montgomery (AL) Brewbaker Tech point guard Desmond Williams wasted no time in making his college decision. Williams announced his verbal pledge to Troy on Sunday evening.

"I had the best relationship with Troy and it felt like home there," Williams told HoopSeen.com following his commitment.

Williams, a 6-foot-1 point guard, has great end-to-end speed and is one of the quickest guards the South has to offer. His speed and athleticism allowed him to put up some big scoring performances over the summer, including an impressive scoring eruption at South Florida's team camp in June. However, one of the most impressive aspects of his game is his defense. Williams is one of the top lock-down perimeter defenders in Alabama's 2019 class.

Troy head coach Phil Cunningham and his staff identified Williams early in the recruiting process. The Trojans were one of the first schools to extend an offer and develop a relationship with the in-state product.

Williams, who will be ranked No. 7 when the updated 2019 HoopSeen Alabama rankings are updated next week, heavily considered Samford, South Alabama, Portland State, Alabama State, and Louisiana-Monroe.

He is the first pledge for the Trojans in the 2019 recruiting cycle. Troy will now look to add another Montgomery product to their class in Carver-Montgomery big man Demond Robinson, who has cemented himself as one of the top mid-major big men in the South.
