Trey Doomes makes pledge to West Virginia

West Virginia added another key piece to its backcourt on Thursday, as 2018 Fort Lauderdale (FL) University School combo guard Trey Doomes made his pledge to the Big 12 program. He took an official visit to campus over the weekend.

"The visit to West Virginia was outstanding," Doomes told HoopSeen.com. "I'm excited to be playing in the Big 12 for a Hall of Fame coach."

Doomes, a Georgia native, had a successful travel season with Nike Team Florida on the Nike EYBL circuit. A 6-foot-3 guard, Doomes should be a perfect fit at West Virginia with his two-way abilities. Over the course of the past year, Doomes has proven he is one of the best slashers in the country. His ability to get to the rim as a downhill guard is something that has thrived in Morgantown in the past.

Huggins and his staff have big expectations for Doomes once he gets on campus. There will be big shoes to fill, though.

"I feel like West Virginia fits my playing style perfectly. They are also graduating Javon Carter, so there's a great opportunity for me to play a lot."

Doomes averaged 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists per game in EYBL action. He was also a key player for Allatoona High School over the years.

He joins point guard Jordan McCabe and Derek Culver, who was originally a member of the 2017 class. The Mountaineers also landed a commitment from JUCO big man Andrew Gordon on Friday, too.
