Zion Griffin makes the call for Iowa State

Iowa State may have found a potential replacement for recent Cyclone great Deonte Burton. Monday night, Steve Prohm received a commitment from 2018 Hinsdale (IL) South forward Zion Griffin, who exploded during July and caught the eyes of several high-major programs.

"Coach Prohm was on me from the beginning and he made me feel like a priority," Griffin told HoopSeen.com following his commitment.

Prohm saw Griffin, a tough, 6-foot-6 forward, during July and spearheaded his recruitment from then on. With great athleticism and a strong, sturdy frame, Griffin impressed with his ability to get to the rim whenever he wanted. While he scored at the rim consistently, the senior showed he can hit shots from the perimeter, too. He will be able to play both the 3 and the 4 at Iowa State, similar to how the staff utilized Burton.

Prohm and his staff's relationship with Griffin made the difference in his recruitment. After an official visit to the Ames campus, Griffin saw everything he needed.

"Coach Prohm always checks up on me and my family and that speaks volumes for itself. No other school topped what he did and made me a priority like Iowa State."

Griffin also considered Illinois State, Kansas, and Pittsburgh.

He is the first pledge in the Cyclones' 2018 recruiting cycle. Iowa State is in firm position with point guard Tyler Harris, as well as big man George Conditt.
