In the recruiting world, it feels as if Cody Riley could be entering his senior year in college, not in high school. A very well-known name throughout the past few years, the Phoenix Phamily forward has consistently been one of the most consistent producers since entering the high school ranks. After helping deliver quality performance after quality performance this past weekend in Suwanee, delivering a Nike Peach Jam berth to his bunch, the west coast recruit gave further insight on his college recruitment.

Suiting up alongside top ranked sophomore forward Marvin Bagley on the travel circuit, Riley can sometimes be overshadowed by what his teammate brings to the hardwood. However, the 6-foot-7 junior is the engine to his team and the tone setter for his squad in the frontcourt. More of a small ball 4-man that can play make out of the high post setting, Riley seems to produce each time that he hits the court.

While he tends to rely on physicality over finesse, Riley is great at creating angles for himself off of the catch and rip and is very productive in the lane. While he isn’t the most athletic of prospects, he does explode well at the rim and can score through contact and also secure rebounds within traffic.

On the EYBL circuit this spring, the Sierra Canyon product has posted solid averages across the boards in scoring close to 14 points while getting to the charity stripe over six times per contest. Throw in his seven boards per game and physical mindset and what you have with the contact inducing power forward is a strong option for any program out west within the 2017 class.

With just two more months before his travel ball career is over with, Riley has begun to zero in on his recruitment. “Arizona State, UConn, UCLA, USC, Kansas, and Oklahoma,” the Phoenix Phamily star stated as to who is in touch with him the most. “Remy (Martin) and I are going to Arizona State on June 12.”

Securing an unofficial visit from the duo is big for Bobby Hurley and his crew in Tempe and a possible package of the pummeling big man and Remy Martin, a high school and travel teammate, could be in the works. “Me and Remy going to school together, it definitely is a possibility for sure. We have talked about it,” Riley said. “I have been playing with him since the sixth grade.”

Outside of Arizona State, UCLA has long been thought of as the leader for Riley. “I have been talking to them the longest,” he told HoopSeen. “I have the best relationship with them.”

The plan for now is for Riley to sift his way through the summer months and take more visits in the fall before coming to a final college decision. Whatever the case, it seems like Arizona State and UCLA stand the best shot at landing the services of the super productive and hard playing forward that is Cody Riley.
