Elite Preview: Team 3 Breakdown

The Elite Preview was a tremendous day of basketball at Suwanee Sports Academy Cobb. We had 80 of Georgia's best players from the class of 2016, 2017 and 2018. The camp was so good we decided to break down every player at camp. Here's an examination of Team 3 from our staff of evaluators and media.

Jalen Butler - JB
Kory Keys - KK
Winston Neal - WN
Carter Wilson - CW
Justin Young - JY

Mohammed Abdulsalem, C, Greenforest Christian, 2018: The young big man from Green Forest instantly became one of my favorites when I asked the entire camp to give me the 4 best rebounders and without hesitation he stepped onto the court. As a coach, you don’t often see Freshmen take that type of initiative and then back it up. The big fella looks for contact, has a nose for the ball, and is not afraid to get his hands dirty in the paint.  He is not intimidated by bigger or older players and what he lacks in height, he makes up with size and tenacity.  His skill level needs improvement but he has time to improve in those areas. MM coaches that value toughness and physicality in their big men would do well to get in early. - WN

Aaron Augustin, PG, Peachtree Ridge, 2016: Augustin may not have been the tallest point guard at Elite Preview, but he was one of the biggest and most physical. Augustin, who has a college-ready build, likes to use his size and bulk to bully smaller guards and create separation for mid range and perimeter jump shots. When he was not looking for those jump shots, he was using his strong handle to come off screens and create for his teammates.  - CW

Robert Baker, PF/SF, Walker, 2016: When you first see Robert Baker you marvel at just how long he appears. What takes you back is his skillset to go along with that incredible length. At 6'8" with guard skills, it's easy to see why a handful of high-majors have already pulled the trigger on an offer for the Walker School junior. It's Baker's versatility and ability to get to the rim and finish in traffic that sets him apart from prospects his age. Baker looks like a really high upside player as he continues to add bulk and strength. - KK

Zach Cooks, PG, Norcross, 2017: He got hot the first game and let it fly from deep. Cooks was cooking and his swagger pushed him deep into the day. The sophomore shot it well throughout the day and showed off his handles. He has good natural leadership ability, according to his coach, and was good with those around him as a point guard.  - JY

Brent Duncan, PF, Holy Innocents', 2016: Built like a high-major tight end, Duncan powered his way to the rim for point-blank scores. He has a quick, and strong, vertical burst and Duncan knows how to attack on the baselines with slashes to the paint for oops or good passes to slashers. He has as good of a bounce of any player that was in attendance. A defined post game on both ends of the floor will help continue to propel things for him moving forward into college. - JY

Jordan Goldwire, SG, Norcross, 2017: It was a good showing from the rising junior. He proved that he is one of the better guards in ATL's 2017 class. He shot it well and took advantage of the stage on Saturday. He has the size and the basketball frame that could explode this travel season and into the high school year. This was a good weekend to build upon for the months ahead. - JY

Kohl Roberts, PF, Riverwood, 2016: He is that classic, below-the-rim, grinding post player. That type of player seems like a throwback nowadays, but it's the type of player that can thrive at the low-major level. At 6'7", Roberts is coming off a season where he was named Region 7-AAAAA Player of the Year. For a kid with his bulk and physicality, Roberts moves well and has plus-hands. These attributes are why I can see low-major programs grabbing a steal as he continues to develop. - KK

Avi Toomer, SG, Grady, 2016: Toomer was one of the top performers of the day, showcasing his ability to play both backcourt positions. He was very effective with the ball in ball screen situations, where he looked to attack the rim or pull up in the midrange. He was also very good off the ball, where he shot it well from the perimeter. He showed a lot of toughness in his first run, where he got cut on his nose, and came right back into the game to continue his scoring ways. He was very impressive on the day and separated himself as one of the better guards in camp. - CW
