Conversation helps Crute decide on Ohio U

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Are never easy when you have options. Kendall Crute was torn on whether to go with his gut or look at other opportunities. He came to his decision last night because he found what he wanted. That’s the reason Crute committed to Ohio University.

On a casual call made by Bobcats coach Jim Christian last night, Crute was sold on the Ohio school being his new home based on one simple statement.

“He told me to make the best decision for you,” Crute said. “That let me know he cared about the person more than the basketball player.”

From the beginning, Crute was looking for a college program and a coaching staff that treated one another like family. He was looking for a relationship and interaction with both parties that extended beyond the basketball court.

Crute, who also had Murray State as a finalist, connected with the Bobcats staff and players.

“I liked Murray State,” Crute said. “I liked what they had to offer. But Ohio is just a better decision for me. It was just a place for me where I felt a connection.”

Crute is an athletic combo guard with a strong ability to get to the basket. He understands how to use his body when it comes to taking contact. His ability to mix it up with a mid-range jumper does make him tough to defend at times.

He has also improved on his three-point shooting, which will allow him to extend the floor.

Last season, the 6-foot-3 senior averaged 15.7 points a game and three assists for North Cobb Christian. They finished the season 23-5 before being eliminated from the postseason by Athens Christian.

Committing to the Bobcats helps fit a need. They are looking for a guard to come in and score the ball. Crute does not know what role he will play going to the school next year. He just knows he wants to be used in any way Christian and his staff see fit.

Crute’s commitment to the Bobcats program helps fit a need for him and the program. He is looking for playing time and they are looking to build depth at the guard spots. Ohio U came comes to a surprise since the school expressed interest in him after the summer circuit. They remained diligent to making sure he understood he was high on their priority list.

After visiting them last week, Crute walked away with a clear picture on what he wanted from a program.

“The way the coaches interacted with the players,” he said. “On the court they were about business, as any coach should be. Off the court, they were casual and messing around with them. It seemed like they had a good connection. I have always liked that in coaches.”
