Charlotte snags hometown prospect
Charlotte (N.C.) Vance shooting guard Torin Dorn is a family man. So when the chance to stay close to home and play for Alan Major's UNC Charlotte came along, the 6-foot-4 guard decided family would come first.
Dorn verbally committed to the 49ers on Tuesday.
"My family can come see me play. That's a big thing for me," Dorn said. "I'm a family means a lot to me and it means a lot that my family can watch me play in college."
The 49ers keyed in on Dorn and Keyshawn Woods, both local products, and made the two priorities. Dorn said he likes the vision Major has for him down the road.
"Charlotte likes to get out and transition," Dorn, the No. 13 ranked player in N.C., according to Phenom Hoop Report, said. "Their wings are an integral part of their offense so he feels like me, along with Keyshawn, will be good scoring, rebounding and passing the ball for them in the future."
Dorn also visited UNC Wilmington and Appalachian State. He said he liked the total package he saw with the hometown program.
"I just felt like Charlotte was a good place to achieve all of my goals athletically and academically," Dorn said.
"I want to make myself the best player I can be and reach my potential. I want to play in the NCAA tournament and I feel like UNC Charlotte is a really good program and I feel like they are going in the right direction. I think Charlotte will be in the NCAA tournament for years to come with the nucleolus that we are building up there."
