Top Overall Performers from @CFAClassic

Columbia, SC - The Chick-Fil-A Classic was once again a tournament that brings out some of the nations' top prospects and allows for some good competition right before Christmas. Here is a look at our top performers from the Classic.

Jalen Green was a guy that looks like he can come into the NBA right now and make some shots, probably make a lot of shots. Against the competition at the Classic, Green was able to rise up and get his shot off and consistently make them. Through the weekend he averaged 60 points in two games. The media frenzy of mixtape and video highlight guys crowded the baseline to get a shot of Green in action. He is able to get by any defender with his explosive first-step and once he takes you better run and hide or you will be the guy famous for  being the one on the wrong side of a Jalen Green dunk. Green scored 34 points for a tournament high against La Lumiere.

Duke bound forward Jaemyn Brakefield got better as the week went on. His Huntington Prep squad lost their consolation game against Prolific Prep. The big-bodied forward can affect the game from the inside and can knock down shots from the outside. Brakefield averaged 8.7 rebounds and 20.3 points per game for the tournament. He made nine three-pointers over the course of the three games. He had one monstrous one-handed dunk over a defender from Prolific Prep that had everyone in the gym doing the “on his head” universal symbol.

Clemson signee PJ Hall helped Dorman to the American division Chick-Fil-A Classic title by averaging a tournament best 11.3 rebounds per game. In the championship game against Greensboro Day, Hall scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds earning the Most Outstanding Player award. Hall should be able to come into Clemson as a freshman and get minutes with his frame and his skillset. The old school big man can step out and knock down shots and is a rebounding force. Dorman and Hall will look to be the first South Carolina team since the 1986 Eau Claire (Columbia) team to win the upcoming Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Cam Hayes

Future NC State point guard Cam Hayes had a terrific weekend. The 6-foot-3 lead guard for Greensboro Day has picked up the scoring load since Virginia recruit Carson McCorkle went down with an stress-fracture a few weeks ago. Hayes scored 20 points tonight in the loss to Dorman and averaged 16 on the week. Hayes is a part of a brilliant recruiting class by Kevin Keatts that will see him team up with five-star Josh Hall, four-star Shakeel Moore and forward Nick Farrar when the freshman arrive on campus in June. Hayes had the most steals in a game with 7 against Gray Collegiate for the tournament.

Future South Carolina Gamecock Ja’von Benson was really good throughout the weekend specifically showing his ability to stretch the floor at the next level. He had a really good outing against Prolific Prep on Friday night going for 28 points and shooting 4-5 from beyond the three-point line in front of his future South Carolina coach Frank Martin. Benson has played with the competition the last two weeks we have seen him perform at The Bojangles Bash and at The Chick-Fil-A Classic.

2021 small forward Ike Cornish surprised a lot of college coaches and myself with his play for Legacy Charter (SC) over the weekend. At 6-foot-5, Cornish is a rebounding threat and grabs a lot of boards that someone his size usually can’t get to. A little above-average athletically, Cornish has some explosiveness to his game and at the end of the day is a playmaker that knows how to win. His recruitment is a mixture of mid-major and high-major schools and we anticipate him landing at a high-major school when it is all said and done.
