Georgia Cup III Championship Stories

A shortened weekend made the championship atmosphere come a day early at our Georgia Cup III. Several teams rose to the occasion in front of our staff. Heres a look at some of our championship winners. 

 

17U: Georgia Kings (Ogletree) 69, Gwinnett Elite 58

The Georgia Kings (Ogletree) beat Gwinnett Elite 69-58 to win the 17 and under division of the Georgia Cup III tournament on Saturday. 

 

Tae Burton led the Kings with 18 points and scored from all over the court including 4 made three-pointers and numerous drives to the basket. Corey Boston also contributed 12 points mainly from strong inside layups and a few points in transition. Overall, the Kings played collectively better and excelled in transition. 

 

Varun Danak led Gwinnett Elite with 26 points and displayed a very versatile skill set with an ability to score both inside and from mid-range. Key Gibson also added 10 points and had success in transition and from the free throw line.

 

16U: MTXE 82, Team Bivens 67

 

Both of the teams that played for the 16U title game today have proven themselves to be the top teams in their age group here at the Georgia Cup. Only one team came out on top and that was MTXE winning the Championship game 82-67.

 

Cal Peterson of MTXE 16U team led the charge with 16 points and excelled in shooting beyond the arc. Peterson made four three-pointers to help lift MTXE over Team Bivens. Peterson lit it up from the three but also made euro-step layups look like clockwork. Daniel Beverly added 12 points, also knocking down two three-pointers.

 

Kyle Seramur and Trey Acklin both had 10 points. Both Seramur and Acklin excelled at getting to the free throw line and both knocked down their shots when they had the opportunity. MTXE shot really well from the free throw line as a team, which ultimately led to their victory.

 

M. Carter of Team Bivens scored 21 points in the loss to MTXE. The 2021 guard blew by his defenders to finish at the rim. He excelled at finishing and drawing fouls. D. Thompson added 17 points and was a presence in the paint and around the rim. Team Bivens had free throw woes, leaving 13 points off the board, which could have been the deciding factor in today’s title game.

 

15U: Atlanta All-Stars 67, BCB 44

The Atlanta All-Stars beat BCB 67-44 to win the 15 and under division of the Georgia Cup III tournament on Saturday. 

 

M. Vinograduo scored 12 points for the All-Stars from mainly inside the perimeter while C. Thacker also contributed 12 points with several good drives to the basket and showed a great ability to run the floor throughout the course of the game. The All-Stars dominated the game from the jump and worked together to move the ball efficiently while also forcing numerous turnovers on the defensive end. 

 

Trent Jackson led all BCB players with 17 points and excelled from the three-point line making four three-pointers and displayed a solid overall game while Hysan Dalton also contributed 7 points.

 

14U: Georgia Kings (Woods) 49, Georgia Kings (Billingsley) 39

The Georgia Kings (Woods) beat the Georgia Kings (Billingsley) 49-39 to win the 14 and under division of the Georgia Cup III tournament on Saturday. 

 

Kelton Smith led the Kings (Woods) with 10 points and made his presence known inside dominating from post moves, on the glass along with solid defensive play. J. Hodo also contributed 9 points coming from strong attacks to the basket and good play in transition. In the end, the Kings (Woods) played well as a unit and hit pivotal shots to pull away at the end of the game.

 

Karmello English scored 11 points for the Georgia Kings (Billingsley) and attacked the basket frequently to get the majority of his points while Patrick Screws Jr also added 8 points from inside the perimeter.

 

13U: JSI Elite 55, MTXE 39

 

JSI had it rolling from the start of our 13U Georgia cup III championship. Stifling defense held MTXE to 18 first-half points as JSI took a substantial lead. One of the best shot makers in the 13U division, Josh took over the first half with two made threes to head towards 10 total points.

 

The second half was much of the same but the offensive load came from another source for JSI. Nehemiah took over the third quarter with 8 points that created further separation for JSI. Overall, the defense of JSI lead the way for their group as they took an eventual 55 to 39 win in our 13U championship. 

 

 

12U: Buckhead Blazers 57, MTXE 29

 

Two solid young teams with quick guards and good shooters inside the perimeter battled it out today for the 12U Championship Game here at Georgia Cup III. In the end, the Blazers came out boasting the trophy high with a win of 57-29.

 

They earned that trophy.

 

The Blazers had to take down North Forsyth Thunder on Friday and Core4 earlier Saturday to advance to the Championship game to the match-up against MTXE.

 

The Blazers’ scoring was distributed throughout eight players. Avery White, a shifty guard led the team with 17 points, 14 of which came in the first quarter. He was explosive to the hole every time he touched the ball with the exception of a few floaters.

 

Drew Jara contributed nine points, most of his also came in the first quarter and solely on jumpers or layups. Owen Ritger, big man contributed eight points with many offensive boards to help seal the Blazers’ victory. Stan Watkins had seven points and Reynolds Escher had six points including one made three-pointer to add to the victory.

 

Ryan Kim of MTXE scored 14 points in the title game including two three-pointers. Michael Dee, Andrew Durieux and Jake Lovelock all shared four points.

 

 

11U: Chattanooga Elite 42, Georgia State Warriors Black 2026 39

Chattanooga Elite beat the Georgia State Warriors 42-39 to win the 11 and under black division of the Georgia Cup III tournament on Saturday. 

 

Pinkerton led the Chattanooga Elite with 22 points from all areas of the court including strong success drawing fouls and making free throws. Hudgins also contributed 11 points from foul shots and layups in transition. Chattanooga Elite excelled at attacking the basket throughout the game making 17 free throws as a team, ultimately being the deciding factor at the end of the game.

 

Aiden Evans led the Warriors with 13 points through a mix of inside baskets and foul shots with Hampton Cox also contributing 9 points and was able to get inside frequently and also score from the perimeter.
