NBPA Top 100 Camp: Terrific Trio

Our three-man staff watched every player at the 2016 NBPA Top 100 Camp several times and spent the weekend going back over our notes from the event. These three players stood taller than the rest of the pack from the weekend.

Charles Bassey, PF, 2019: Only a handful of rising sophomores earned an invite to the prestigious camp. Bassey put on a rebounding clinic during his time in Charlottesville. Paired against some of the best bigs in the event, the big man via San Antonio went to work in impressive fashion. While I’m not too familiar with his overall body of work, I have to think his showing in Virginia was his best overall event on a stage like this. There is still a ways to go with his progression as an elite prospect but the raw tools are undeniable. Bassey left quite the impression, so much so we thought he was one of the three best players at the camp. - Justin Young

Rayshaun Hammonds, SF, 2017: Not many have had a better, more productive spring than the Peach State native. Rayshaun Hammonds was once thought of primarily as a combo, tweener forward that enjoyed playing on the perimeter. However, the Norcross junior has vastly improved his outside jumper and ball skills, all of which was on full display in Virginia. The lefty got to the basket off of a deadly first step, finished through contact, and showed some stones during his overtime clinching 23-footer at the buzzer. No wonder why Hammonds has become such a priority for the top SEC programs. - Corey Evans

Zion Williamson, F, 2018: It isn't often that a non-senior flourishes the way that Williamson did at the NBPA Camp this past week. The five-star recruit became a fan and media member favorite these past few days with his dominating motor and numbers that matched. While he doesn't look like he could be a fine athlete, the explosive sophomore does more than just meets the eye as the lefty threw down highlights jam after highlight jam, along with bringing down everything within his grasp on the glass. Williamson heads back home with MVP honors along with new offers from WKU and Baylor; not a bad few days, I'd say. - Corey Evans
