Weber State has made a living off of under-the-radar talent in the Big Sky conference. After the long-term success for Portland Trailblazers star Damian Lillard, the program has become an intriguing option for prospects.

Head coach Randy Rahe and his staff received good news heading into the weekend, as 2018 Wichita (KS) Southeast combo guard Israel Barnes said yes to the program, giving the Wildcats a notable piece in the backcourt for 2018.

"My family and I prayed about it and afterwards I just felt like Weber State was the best fit for me and the best opportunity for me to come in right away and be successful," Barnes told HoopSeen.com.

Barnes, who played with Mokan Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit, was impressive during the first EYBL stop in Hampton, Virginia, in April. The 6-foot-3 guard was a balanced scorer, as he used his athleticism and speed to chop up defenses at the basket, but he also showed the ability to be a consistent shooter, too. He averaged 11 points per game in EYBL action, including 16 points per game in five games at Peach Jam to conclude the summer.

Rahe and his staff did a fantastic job recruiting Barnes. They were one of the first schools involved and remained in the hunt throughout the process.

"It's a winning program with a great coach. Coach Rahe is surrounded by other great coaches and I felt like who I am as a person fit their culture."

Barnes also considered Valparaiso and UAB.
