The priority recruit of the 2017 class for Kevin Ollie and crew at UConn, Makai Ashton-Langford came off the board in favor of the AAC program on Monday. The number 53-ranked prospect in the 2017 class, the Brewster Academy guard is one of the fastest and most aggressive lead guards in all of America, something that will immediately be welcomed in Storrs next fall.

Running with the Mass Rivals bunch this past summer, Ashton-Langford and his squad had a July to remember. Going undefeated during all three weeks of college evaluation play, the Huskies commit capped off the month with the championship crown at the adidas Summer Championship, a tip-top event held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A point guard that loves to speed up the game at any given chance, Ashton-Langford should pair nicely alongside Jalen Adams, the most recent Brewster Academy product to take his talents to UConn. More of a high-risk, high-reward type, the senior guard has gotten better at limiting his turnover count and controlling his speed and quickness when below the arc.

This isn’t to say that Ashton-Langford is entirely polished where he needs to further his outside jumper and stroke at the foul line. Making under 30-percent of his long distance attempts and less than 60-percent from the charity stripe, consistent shot making is in order. However, the speedy guard from New England is someone that has laid his hat on how hard he plays, his playmaking abilities, and also rebounding the ball from the point guard position.

The first commitment in the 2017 class for the Huskies, the staff in Storrs will remain in the hunt for a few other frontcourt options as they continue to track the likes of Tyler Polley, Josh Carlton, and Bourama Sidibe, as well as going full throttle ahead in luring five-star wing Hamidou Diallo to campus next year.
