Georgia Cup I championship recaps: 17U-15U

GOD'S PROPERTY RICE WINS 17U GEORGIA CUP

The 17U Georgia Cup championship came down to a battle of two God's Property Thunder teams. It was also a tale of two halves. In the first, God's Property's offense was rolling, led by North Gwinnett guard Ethan Smith. That got them out to a 40-31 halftime lead over God's Property Rice.

The second half was a completely different story. JaQuan Morris had a huge half to propel God's Property Rice out to a double figure lead in the second half. GP Rice took home the trophy with a 80-70 win. JaQuan Morris finished with 20 points, 15 in the second half.

QCAA COMES TO GEORGIA, TAKES 16U BLACK TITLE

Based out of Charlotte, North Carolina, QCAA Force came to the first stop on the Georgia Cup circuit and went undefeated en route to the 16U Black championship. The Carolina kids beat a scrappy Georgia Orangemen Elite 1 team 49-41 to take home the title.

QCAA had great balance across the board in the championship game. Point guard David Kasanganay finished his great week of work with 10 points in the win. C. Crawford also scored 10 while D. Early had 11 points.

The Orangemen were led by Dejuan Horne (South Gwinnett), who finished with 15 points in the loss. Trevor Ringo and Oliver Oden each added seven points in the game.

3 POINT PLAY MAKES 2ND HALF COME TO 16U TITLE

Trailing 32-20 at the half after GA TNT’s Chris Brown banked home a three at the horn, 3 Point Play refused to go away and instead decided to slowly chip away at TNT’s lead before earning a 43-39 victory. 3 Point Play sparked an 8-0 run to claw back into the game at 32-28. Defense reigned supreme in the fourth quarter as TNT was held to just four points. D’Mante Pressley and Nate Reid, both from Lakeside-DeKalb, made the biggest plays down the stretch for 3 Point Play. Pressley scored four of his 9 points in the fourth while Reid connected on an And-1 layup with 30 seconds to play for the go-ahead hoop. Reid finished the night with nine points. Gabe Armstead paced GA TNT with 11 points, eight coming in the first quarter.

GOING COASTAL FOR 15U ORANGE TITLE

The Coastal Crew Rebels coasted to a 45-24 championship victory over BCB Black. Javonte LeCounte powered the Rebels with 16 points while Qualeek Keith netted eight. Eight players scored for the Coastal Crew who won the tournament without leading scorer Isaiah Scott who was sidelined with an injury.

TEAM BALL WINS 15U BLACK FOR BCB

Blue Collar Basketball used team basketball and big time effort all weekend to make it to the black division championship in 15U, where they met God's Property. In that game, it was more of the same for BCB. A total team effort guided them to the title.

Ashton Young and Grant Reardon made plays down the stretch of the second half to give BCB a big lead, which they never lost, winning the game 58-47.
